Interesting plot, decent game play, convenient controls
Terrible menus, low quality animation, not interesting to play without paying money
Castle Defense for Android offers some interesting twists on the classic tower defense game. The elements are interesting but how it’s put together and presented is a little clumsy.
Castle Defense has a lot going for it, but just as much working against it. I love the hand drawn feel to the graphics, but and the storybook look. Chose your heroes, build your towers, even unleash hand to had combat against enemies. I love the gruesome looking beasts. All of that is cool and fun, and the play isn't half bad, though the upgrades are greedy and it’s hard to stay interested without spending money right out of the gate. I’m all for pay for play, but give me a little more intrigue before you hamstrung your game.
The animation is choppy at best. The sounds are fun and fit the action. The game as a whole uses a lot of resources and runs the CPU hot really quick. As usual for these games, the zoom controls are terrible; a combination of unrefined graphics and distant views. The navigation menus are shoddy with tiny fonts and a very dated feel. This would look terrible on smaller screens.
Castle Defense has a lot of potential and should only get better and better with age. As it is, it’s a decent kid’s game. I’ll wait for the all grown-up version before I start to really take notice.
