Review Appy Gamer – Games news

Brandon Girod
8.5Excellent
Feels very modern, fantastic design, lets you curate your experience
There community isn't really there yet
I typically get all of my news from a news aggregator like Reddit. That said, I don't really get a lot of these news apps simply because I feel like there are better alternatives. Appy News for Android is a news aggregator itself, although it isn't as curated an experience as something like Reddit is.
This app is built from the ground up to include nothing but game news, though it does tend to dip into things like technology and software. When you first jump I to the app, you're asked to select from a series of topics you might be interested in. This list is completely made up of gaming topics such as Xbox, Playstation, PC, and even specific games, so you can curate the experience however you'd like.
Articles themselves look very great. You always have a high resolution header image, a clear headline, there is an infrequently used rating system, and you can read the full articles plus comments. If you're signed into the correct social media accounts then you can also comment straight from the app, too.
The UI is really user friendly and you can easily navigate to where you need to go. There are nice visual animations that occur as pages move around when you're navigating. My only complaint is that there are times when some of the media is slow to load in. It always seems like there are things popping in. This could potentially be an issue with certain sites having uncompressed images that take forever to load.
Overall Appy Gamer was a surprisingly positive experience. You get to see the news you want, though you won't get the same type of community experience you might with other more community driven apps.
