Lots of ads, didn't recognize all of my music
Equalizer Music Player Booster for Android is a three-in-one app that acts as an equalizer, an mp3 player, and a bass booster, all for your phone. It boasts a simple to use interface and has a lot of cool functionality that your typical music player doesn’t.
I’ve recently reviewed another music player where I said that I wasn’t sure there would ever be a scenario where I would ever choose a third party music player over something like Google Music or Spotify. Sure, technically those are both third party, but they’re also where I get my music from. No downloading is necessary. This app gave me a reason to second guess that opinion. It didn’t change my mind, however.
The biggest things that this app has going for it is its abilities to mess with the EQ of the music (or podcasts) that you listen to. My Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has a few music enhancing options, but it doesn’t have an EQ built right into its music player, and neither do any of the aforementioned apps. Now, the only problem I see is that the EQ features aren’t very sensitive. I’ve been a musician half of my life and even I had trouble noticing when sliding the some of the levels on the EQ made any difference to the sound. Most of the time I had to really mess with the sliders.
The bass booster is a nice touch for people that really want that extra boost while they’re listening to music, but you’ll want a pair of nice headphones to really be able to utilize this feature without it sounding bad.
Let’s be honest for a second here, though. This is a music player that profits on ads, so that means you’re going to be flipping through songs and have ads stuck in between them. You’ll also navigate to another part of the app, only to be stopped by a full screened ad. These are huge inconveniences that an incredibly simple 5-band EQ simply aren’t worth dealing with.
Equalizer Music Player Booster is a really solid mp3 player that does what it does well. If you really want to mess with your music’s EQ then go for it. But your phone’s mix is probably already exactly where it should be. The ads are the final nail in the coffin for me. I simply won’t put up with them when I have a better alternative sans ads.
