Beautiful graphics, fun and engaging gameplay, great unlock system
Controls aren’t consistent, timing feels off at times
Vikings Legend Raiders Glory for Android takes everything great about endless runners and smashes it all together with well designed RPG elements. What you get, when the dust clears, is an addictive endless runner with tons of replayability.
You start off with a quick tutorial that goes over all of the different ways you can unleash your berserker’s rage on the game’s various enemies. Swiping down performs a melee attack in your lane. Swiping left or right will move the viking into the corresponding lane with a whirlwind attack. Swiping up causes your viking to leap over obstacles, but swiping down mid-air causes him to unleash hell from above. You’re even equipped with ranged weapons to help you take enemies down from afair. You'll definitely want to make sure you’re always on the offensive, too, since your viking’s life literally depends on it.
On the left side of the UI is a rage meter. Getting hit will cause the meter to drop, but killing enemies will build it higher. If you run out of rage then your viking will simply collapse.
The objective for every run is to get as far as you can in one life. When you die--and you will die--you’ll just spawn another run, but you get to keep the coins you collected by defeating enemies. These coins can be used to upgrade your viking’s armor or purchase better weapons. Each weapon has better stats, and will allow you to get further and further in each run by making previous enemies seem like push-overs.
I’m also a big fan of the developers including a male and female viking into the game.
Gloating aside, there are a few misses. There are times when the game will register a single swipe as two swipes, and you’ll subsequently die by moving two lanes over--straight into a barrel of dynamite. Timing can feel off sometimes, too. You’ll swipe down as you approach an enemy and suddenly die because it seems like the game just won’t register your attack.
Vikings Legend Raiders Glory is one of those games that manages to reach the perfect balance when it comes to game mechanics. Sure, you could call this an endless runner, but it’s so much more than just that. If you’re a fan of endless runners or action RPGs then you’ll no doubt have a blast with this one.
