Review HAMMER'S QUEST
A great action RPG
Author: Brandon Girod

Cool retro graphics, unique gameplay, lots of progression
Ridiculous energy system, music could have more variation
Most adventurers prefer to use swords and shields, but those items are useless in Hammer Quest for Android. This is a one touch RPG that will task you with collecting gold, leveling up, and smashing everything you see.
So there are a ton of things to like about this game. First up is the leveling system. You gain experience points as you play and complete each level, and you net some gold in the process. When you level up your damage, defense, agility, and health come up. Enemies get stronger and land gets more difficult to break as you play so leveling up is pretty crucial. Upgrading your gear is equally important as it can increase the range of your swing as well as stats.
So this is dabbling a bit in endless runner territory except there is an end. Your character will automatically walk right, stopping at every obstacle or enemy in the way. You can use a single attack to break obstacles or attack enemies, but if you hold down the attack button then you can swing your hammer in a wider range, doing damage to multiple enemies. Not all enemies can be dealt with in one fell swoop, though. Not pressing anything will automatically guard which mitigates some damage.
Now the bad stuff is that the game utilizes a really low energy system that takes a long time to recharge. As much as I enjoy the game, this feature alone just takes all the wind out of its sails. Less than 15 minutes into the game I had already used up my energy and needed to wait 5 minutes to recharge. At that point I would have easily just left the game and forgotten about it.
I'd like to recommend this game because it feels really unique, but the energy system is really poorly balanced. It needs a rehaul for the game to be good.
