Quality 3D graphics, exciting plot, addictive game play
Uses a lot of system resources, too easy, very common
Real Steel Champions for Android is a kick ass RPG fighting game with super cool, futuristic robots that you can build and tweak. This is the companion app to the big budget Hollywood blockbuster and the play is action packed and addictive.
Real Steel Champions displays in landscape and starts you off in the depths of an industrial warehouse, where modern day cockfights are taking place, but instead of clucking chickens, we're pitting robot against robot in mano a mano, steel to steel fights to the finish; or until someone craps a diode and reboots; whichever comes first. The play is actually rather cookie cutter, displaying fights from a side view and just pounding the ever living daylights outta each other. We've seen this format with comic book heroes, wrestling stars, etc. However, no matter how many times they remake this retread and serve up these leftovers, it's always scrumptiously delicious.
The controls employ the, beat the crap outta your screen till you win, approach to gaming, which is effective and engaging but legitimately makes me fear for my prized gizmo's safety. The graphics feature a dramatic color palate, rich with color and saturation that beckons you onward. The animation is clean throughout, which is saying a lot, given all the bursts of color and pixels onscreen. The sounds are engaging and dramatic and certainly added to the fun.
Real Steel Champions doesn't chart new territory or even remotely attempt to present something new or novel, but the play is addictive and action packed. Enjoy, fight fans.
