Easy controls, power-ups aren’t terribly expensive
The game’s aesthetic leaves a lot to be desired, gameplay feels rather static
I’ve found myself becoming a bigger fan of platformer games than I have been in the past. Games that featured complex jumping puzzles used to frustrate me to no end but now I enjoy them. Caveman Run for Android is an endless runner with a lot of platforming elements thrown about and it accumulates to a fairly pleasant experience.
Jumping over pits, spikes, and charging through enemies is all part of the game, and you’ll do so with relative ease. There are two buttons, one on each side of the screen, that allow you to jump or dash. As you navigate your way through the game you’ll follow the endless trail of coins which will allow you to purchase power-ups, though you can also find these scattered about the level.
The game runs and feels good. Jumping is immediate and doesn't feel floaty like many other poorly coded platformers. Hit boxes tend to feel slightly larger than they should, however. I found that there were plenty of times my character would get “caught” on spikes even though they were still floating over them.
I’m not a huge fan of the art style. Everything feels just a bit too hazy and the character design doesn’t really appeal to anyone. It just kind of seems like they picked a subject that isn’t very popular and made a game featuring it.
Caveman Run is a fairly typical endless runner that features good jumping mechanics and stage design. The hitboxes could use a bit of adjustment but the overall game is fun and competent.
