Review Candy Land
Another sugar-filled match three
Author: Brandon Girod

Solid gameplay mechanics, performs well
Very generic graphics, gameplay isn’t innovative
Wouldn’t it be amazing to live in a land that was completely made up of nothing but candy? Well, being an adult, not so much. But five-year-old me would have loved it, much to the detriment of my oral hygiene. Candy Land for Android is a match three game that doesn’t really do much to inspire my child-like wonder, however.
At its core it’s a typical match three puzzle game, and unfortunately, it’s the exact same thing on the outside as well. When you think about the very basics of what a match three game should be like then this game checks every checkbox. It has simple power-ups, gives you several different patterns to match candy, and gives you reasonable scores to reach.
The problem is that at this point I’m just expecting something more from a game like this. If I really wanted to play just a match three game then there are others that just flat out look better and are more well known. This game doesn’t exactly give me any incentive to pick it up over something like Candy Crush Soda Saga.
Candy Land isn’t a bad match three game but it certainly doesn’t do anything to impress me as a player. The graphics look very generic and the tile animations movements don’t wow me. Given that the game mechanics are identical to every other match three game, there is very little here to entice me.
