Addictive gameplay, frantic tapping action, fun music and aesthetic
Needs more things to do, intrusive ads
I’m not sure what the deal is with clicking games, but they’re pretty much all the rage. Orcs for Android is one of the more interesting ones, though. You control a band of orcs as they start their mission to lay waste to lands belonging to humans.
To say all you do is simply tap the screen would do this game insult. Yes, that is how you gain wood, which is the game’s only resource, but there are other aspects of the game that you have to pay attention to as well. For instance, there are two structures to build: a barracks and a tower that allows you to send your warrior and archers on quests. There are also upgrades you need to get in order to collect wood faster. You can upgrade your axe and hire other workers who will collect wood on their own.
The idea is to tap the screen as fast, and often, as possible so you can continuously upgrade yours setup in an effort to upgrade your troops so they can complete all the quests. Quests aren’t really interesting on their own, though. You watch your warrior and archer take down enemy after enemy as they collect tons of wood. The thing is, you have to spend wood in order to send your guys on a quest, so it doesn’t really make a lot of sense to me.
I guess it really doesn’t have to make a lot of sense, though. I still found myself pulling the app open to get more wood over and over again.
My biggest beef with the game is that I really don’t know what I’m working towards. Upgrades get further and further away, and it’s not like it’s actually fun to continuously tap the screen for no reason. I also find the ads to be incredibly intrusive. In a game full of tapping, they’ll randomly throw up a fullscreen ad where you’ll do accidently hit it because you’re already in the middle of a tap. That’s just downright deceiving.
Orcs is still a really fun game, though. I’m just not entirely sure what part about it is so fun. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s so easy to just say you’ll keep tapping for just a few more seconds, or the fact that there is always something to work towards. Either way, if you’re a fan of games where you click, you’ll love this one.
