Review Bus Rush
Outrun an angry gorilla
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 01 Jun 2017, tested on Samsung SM-G920F Galaxy S6
Neat graphics, unusual plot, decent game play
Bad controls, bores you really quickly, slow animation
Bus Rush for Android is another endless runner game, and no, it doesn't bring a whole lot new to the mix, however, the game is wholly playable and addictive. This one has a circus style theme, in that, you start off taunting an organ grinder monkey that's all grown up to be gorilla size. He's locked in a cage and your bratty kid avatar thinks it would be a great idea to taunt that caged beast, who gets made enough to bust out of his cage and chase you. Okay, so it's a rather thin plot, but it works for these purposes.
Once you set off running, the play has you leaping and dodging through heavy traffic that happens to be comprised of dozens and dozens of buses, hence the name. In reality, they probably just wanted this to look a little like the hit game, Subway Surfers, which it does, minus the speed and adrenaline. The animation is far too slow and laggy, effectively siphoning some of the angst and imperative we should be feeling when a gorilla is hot on our tail. Having said that, I liked the variance in the obstacles, going up, down, under and over and array of goodies designed to trip you up. And when you do mess up, fret not, because that gorilla will take your life swiftly and with mercy; provided you consider animated flailing limbs to be a humane way to die.
The controls are just your typical directional swipes, and they often felt spongy and unresponsive, perhaps by design. Yup, there's loads of useless upgrades, none of which will add much excitement to your play.
Bus Rush is decent fun for an endless runner, despite my lackluster enthusiasm. I just wanted to see more originality out of it too.
