Review Magica X Magica
A beautifully drawn side-scrolling shooter

Gorgeous graphics, fun gameplay, no ads
Controls are obnoxious, the game feels too grind intensive, weapon unlocks aren’t permanent
Magica X Magica for Android is a side-scrolling shooter that draws you in with its beautifully handdrawn graphics and hooks you with its fast paced and engaging gameplay. You play as a young girl who is on a perpetual chase to rescue her kidnapped bestfriend.
When it comes right down to it, I’m of two different minds. I like how everything looks like a hand-drawn story book and the gameplay is fun, but the way you aim is a huge hindrance because the on-screen button isn’t relative to enemy positions. I very much want to just tap my finger where an enemy is and shoot in that direction but instead you get a slider that is pretty sensitive to movement.
Progressing in the game is also pretty slow. You typically get a decent amount of money with every play through but your first health upgrade is 5000 coins, which will likely take you between five or six runs to grab. Weapon upgrades are cheaper, but buying new weapons is just expensive and weapons are actually just unlockable power-ups that have a very limited use.
I came into this game wanting to really enjoy it but I think there are just as many reasons to not like the game as there are to like it. I do feel like a lot of other players out there will enjoy Magica x Magica and aside from the controls and slow progression system, the game is incredibly fun to play.
