Review Ball Transformer
Unusual platformer with puzzle elements

Decent animation, decent graphics, every level brings something new, unusual game play, two-finger controls
No significant shortcomings
Ball Transformer for Android is a cool platformer where you play a ball that you cycle through three different materials to overcome a variety of challenges. The White ball (volleyball) floats up much higher than the others when you jump. The steel ball is (of course) heavier than the others, which means it can hardly jump at all. But sometimes, the steel ball is essential, because it can push around heavy objects, or move levers. The orange ball (basketball) is a good all rounder, with an intermediate bounce, and the ability to push around some objects.
The levels are superbly designed so that you will need to switch through balls several times to complete all the obstacles. You only have a limited number of switches to use in completing each level, which gives an added challenge. Your ball transforms from one material to another in a set order, so that sometimes you'll need to use up two switches to get to the right material at the right time.
The controls are dead simple: left-right buttons for rolling, a circle button to bounce, and a refresh button to transform your ball. The buttons are mostly transparent, so they don't get in the way. I love the flat vector-graphics look of the game, and the introduction which tells you where this technologically advanced robot ball came from. Genius idea for a game, superbly executed.
Unique puzzle game

Lots of levels, responsive game play, simple controls, interesting physics
Graphics could have been better
Ball Transformer for Android blends together the platformer genre with the typical puzzler to give you a very unique experience. There are plenty of levels in this game that can keep you entertained for a good few hours.
The objective of this game is to get your ball to the finish line. In between the start and the finish are all sorts of traps and dangers that could end up with you losing a life. There are also three stars hidden in each level and collecting these can increase your performance score. You are given three basic controls to get your ball rolling. Left and right controls are provided for basic movement, whilst a jump button is available for you to move over and across obstacles.
There is also another button that plays a very important role (pun not intended) in this game. The transformation button will change the qualities of your ball and this button will need to be used a lot. Whether you're attempting to cross a large canyon, push your way through heavy crates or knock down blocks to create a bridge, the transformation button will allow you to change the way your ball reacts to different objects in-game.
You are given a heavy ball which cannot jump but it is useful for moving objects. There is also a soft ball for clearing heights and distance but it can't be used to move objects and there is a ball that is somewhat in between the other two. You will need to use each ball type carefully in each mission. You are only given a certain amount of transformations on each level as well so you'll have to think carefully about how to execute each level successfully. I personally love the concept of this game and there is enough content to keep you playing for a while. The graphics aren't great and the interface could be a lot better, but it's not unbearable.
Ball Transformer is free to play and there are no in-app purchases in this game.
