Decent graphics, decent game play, simple controls
Too easy, very common, low quality animation
Anno: Build an Empire for Android is a sim based game that takes place in olden times, when navigating the seas was what adventures were made of, and creating a thriving harbor civilization was just part of survival. This one has you building structures, huts, businesses, roadways, and all the basic infrastructure needed to make your fledgling civilization grow and be merry.
Setting the novel plot aside, the play is very dry and pat, not really going anywhere new or charting any new territory, despite the nautical explorer theme. Basically, you're just sliding and dragging to place structure, then paying for play to speed up build times. Sure you can go pretty far in this game without paying any money, but the fun dwindles exponentially. There's a heavy text based plot that instructs you along the way and offers tasks and quests to complete. Just listen to your citizen's needs, because they'll tell you what to do next. This is one of those games that requires a big commitment of time before you'll really see all it's capable of.
The graphics are quite detailed, however, the zoom function doesn't go in quite as tight as I would have hoped. The animation is decent, but highly repetitive. And the sounds offer marginal entertainment value that could just as easily be muted.
Anno: Build an Empire has a lot going for it, but at the end of the day, it settled on being just another retread sim game with nothing all too original or interesting going on.
