There is no way to quickly recover from death, obstacles felt a bit too difficult when they're first introduced
There might not be anything quite as morbid as flinging around a skull. That is until you realize that you do that by flicking its brain to actually do the moving. But that's the main mechanic in Skullduggery! for Android, and the type of dark humor you'll find in the game as you collect taxes from the dead.
I'm not a huge fan of most tutorials but the developers were really clever in the way they handled it here. Instructions are written onto the walls in the background and doesn't impede on the player's experience at all since they can simply ignore it on further playthroughs.
Mechanics are leaked to the player at a pace that gives them time to understand and get used to each before throwing more at them. And mechanics feel pretty unique and fun. You flick the skull around by pulling its brain. A path indicator will pop up to give you an idea of where you'll fly. As you progress you'll find enemies you need to take out, environmental destruction, and dangerous obstacles you'll need to avoid.
There were definitely some times I was left a bit frustrated by some of the obstacles. You can slow time down in mid-air and the game definitely uses this as a way to ramp up difficulty. The problem is that, unlike more modern platformers, you don't instantly spawn back to life to tackle the obstacle again.
Skullduggery! is definitely one of the more unique platformers I've played recently and I definitely recommend it. The mechanics are all fluid and fun, and level design managed to stay interesting throughout the game.
