Review Catch the Dots

Really cool dynamic title screen, unique gameplay mechanics, easy progression system
There is a huge difficulty wall, gameplay becomes unrewarding and repetitive
Catch the Dots for Android is about as literal a name as it gets. What do you do? Take a wild guess. The concept of catching dots sounds pretty easy and it is, but it ends up being a crazy hectic experience.
So the idea is that there are only two colors. When you don’t press anything then your circle stays one color, say red, and if you tap and hold then the circle changes to another, say blue. Once you’re explained this concept dots start to drop all around your circle and you have to absorb the dots by making sure the circle is the same color when the dots hit.
The concept is honestly really fun and it’s fairly relaxing too. Unfortunately, I always seemed to hit a brick wall where it just seemed almost impossible to progress because the dots were coming in at too fast of a pace. Not being able to really get past this point made the game feel really repetitive.
The good news is that you can keep the game somewhat interesting by making sure the unlockable content is really cheap. New content is basically just combinations of different color schemes, so visuals end up always changing.
Overall Catch the Dot is a really decent endless game that highly values having a good aesthetic. Gameplay is fun but can wear itself thin pretty quickly, especially when you hit the inevitable brick wall.
