Quality game design, interesting plot, addictive game play
Terrible music, graphics could have been better, low quality animation
Swords & Poker Adventures for Android is an innovative new way to play poker, adding RPG mechanics to up the play and enjoyment. Go head to head with turn by turn mechanics to battle enemies with winning poker hands. This one is original and fun.
Swords & Poker Adventures displays in portrait and features and interactive map denoting your quest through these mythic realms. You'll do battle against an array of weird beasts and monstrosities, but you won't be using swords or magic potions to launch your attacks, but the killer weaponry of a winning poker hand. Your opponent appears at the top of the screen, while our hero appears at the bottom; between them is a 5x5 grid, populated with 9 ordinary playing cards. The cards are dealt face up in a 3x3 pattern and are common cards used by both players. The outer perimeter is where you'll lay your cards, 2 per turn, and try to make winning poker hands on the vertical, horizontal and diagonal. Both players make use of the 9 common cards and take turns trying to build winning hands, which in turn, launches attacks against each other. Last poker player standing, wins.
The controls use touch and drag commands to select and place cards onto the grid. The graphics are simple, but look good. The animation is largely just motion tracking on still images, with some modest attack animations and card flip sequences. The sounds offer basic ambiance effects along with an overbearing score that gets old fast.
Swords & Poker Adventures is innovative and fun. This one is sure to be a hit with poker and RPG fans, merging the best of both worlds into a unique, hybrid game.
