Review Bakery Story: Pastry Shop

Jay Feldman
Quality game design, really addictive, simple controls
Too easy, very common, dependence on in-app purchases
Bakery Story: Pastry Shop for Android is a sim based game where you bake up yummy goodies and serve them to expectant patrons. Buy ingredients, decorate your shop and create a flourishing business. This one might cost you some real dough but delivers some tasty fun.
Bakery Story: Pastry Shop displays in landscape to offer an aerial point of view looking down on your bakery shop below. The app has a nice zoom function that gets you in close on the action too, so you can see all the nice details. Basically, you're the proud owner of a new bakery shop, and your mission is to greet customers, take orders, bake up some yummies, and serve drooling patrons eager to sample your delectable goodies. But don't keep these customers waiting long, or they won't leave a good tip and may just leave in a huff.
Profits can be used to expand your business, shop for ingredients and make your business grow. The play is involved and fun, though perhaps a tad cookie cutter, if you excuse the pun. You can actually build quite a thriving business here, and visiting neighboring competitors will give you something to aspire to. The controls use basic screen taps to make selections, and simple pinch zoom commands to get in close on the action. The graphics and animation are cartoonish in look, with modest actions to render.
Bakery Story: Pastry Shop is good fun for sim fans who love games that are heavy on interaction. This one requires a lot of time and attention and is fun to play, but beware of all the paid upgrades.
