Charming character, great art design, fun gameplay
Controls can be unresponsive at times, the checkpoints don’t make a lot of sense
You don’t really think about it but being a hotdog is pretty dangerous. I mean, you literally only exist to be eaten, and usually by kids which means they play with you before they do it. Well, Silly Sausage in Meatland for Android is a game that gives you the opportunity to save a young dog’s life by stretching him through surprisingly deadly mazes.
I think this game’s biggest strong suit is its pacing. It’s really forgiving in the beginning because as you stretch you can actually cling to other walls like Spiderman. This makes collecting gems and avoiding saws a really easy task to start off with. Eventually you’ll come across other types of walls that will make it impossible to land on so you’ll have to time everything just right and eventually you’ll look like you’re playing a game of Snake, but with a sausage. Talk about exciting!
The odd part of the game is coming across dog houses. The game persists but you’ve got these dog houses that seem to let you know when you’ve hit level two or level three. The odd part is that if you die, you go all the way back to level one until you hit a “real” checkpoint, which asks you to watch a video or pay some gems in order to spawn from there. It makes me wonder why all of these other houses exist when they really don’t do anything for you.
Oddly enough, I had a blast playing Silly Sausage in Meatland. The character is really fun and I love the concept behind the gameplay. It’s forgiving and challenging at the same time.
