Review Marble Epic

Takes an old idea and puts an really interesting spin on it, mechanics are fun and interesting
Level design is lackluster, the general aesthetic is drab
Bubble/marble shooters are games that kind of have a special place in my heart because I used to sneak online at school and play them. Marble Epic for Android is the first game I’ve played to not copy the genre but take it and do something completely different with it.
Now, the mechanics are still generally the same. You’ve got a turret that shoots different colored marbles at groups of marbles that will disappear when you match three or more. What’s cool about this game is that each level has a pre-built track and the marbles are pushed along the path. You’ve got to find the most efficient way to take out all of the marbles before they reach the end.
Tracks get more complicated as you get through higher levels and the biggest spike in difficulty is when the track is designed in a way that will have the marbles in front blocking the ones behind them. This creates a situation where you have to take shots as soon as they pop up, react much faster, and generally have to take care of the front marbles first.
You do get several different power-ups as you play. Sometimes the game will slow down and other times time will stop completely.
Marble Epic has great gameplay and I love the twist to the game design. I don’t think the visual design matches up to the game itself at all, though. The production value seems kind of low, and while it’s not that big of a deal, the game just isn’t that pretty to look at.
