Decent animation, neat graphics, interesting plot
Bad menus & text, glitches, lags a bit, very common
Little Empire for Android is a fantasy adventure style game. The visuals are good but the controls are a little wonky. And even tough the app boasts that it's free to play, the in-app purchases will definitely cost you if you want to really delve into this game.
Little Empire is another adventure style game within the tried and true sim genre. In this edition, you build up your fantasy kingdom, recruit soldiers and engage in battles that are actually interactive and exciting. The scenic locale of your beachfront kingdom is beautiful to look at. And the zoom controls are far superior to any other game of this genre that I've tried. You can actually pinch-zoom and even pinch-rotate the landscape to get the precise view you're looking for. The awesome zoom controls really invite exploration and discovery and make it possible to fully appreciate the fantasy kingdom you've created from every conceivable angle. It's hugely satisfying, to be sure.
Building up structures and making basic menu selections is needlessly cumbersome. Touches didn't always register the first, second or even third time; sometimes I was literally poking the daylights out of my screen just to execute the simplest of commands. The menu fonts are also tediously small and do not even remotely make use of the available screen space. As a result, this game would be a hot mess on smaller screens.
The battles were interesting, and unlike most games of this genre, I actually felt like I was part of the action even though most of it unfolded on its own. The graphics are good, the animation is decent, but both certainly could have been better. The sounds add to the game's enjoyment and weren't annoying or overly redundant. Overall, the look was a tad crude.
Little Empire is lots of fun but there's still lots of room for improvement in the presentation and menus. I think kids would love this game but will be constantly nagging mom and dad to buy more upgrades. However, as far as fantasy games like this go, Little Empire is one of the better ones; flaws and all.
