Clean design, intuitive interface, you can finally save files you didn’t mean to delete
Some basic functionality is locked behind a paywall, could use a search function
I swear that just the other day I was cursing Android for not having a function akin to the recycle bin from Windows built into the operating system. And to be honest, I really had no idea that there was an app out there like Dumpster for Android. What does it do? It acts like your phones recycle bin by storing items you want to delete in a safe spot before you actually decide to destroy them forever.
It features an incredibly clean design that may not follow material design guidelines but it does look great. It’s also really intuitive for the user to use. Most of the time will be spent in other apps anyway, so it’s nice to see that the developers didn’t forget about usability regardless.
As far as using the app goes, all you have to do is delete a file just like you normally would. At that point it gets stored in the app’s folders. So you can delete as many things as you want although you’ll want to remember that these items will still take up space on your phone.
When you remember to you’ll want to actually open up the app and empty it, which permanently deletes files just like it always has. Now the great thing is that if you accidentally deleted something you didn’t mean to, you can always go back and find it in the app and restore it back to its previous settings.
Organization within the app is one aspect that I haven’t settled my mind on. If it can, the app will create organic folders within the app to try and organize files in an easy to find manner. I like this idea, but it forces the files in an awkward slide out view. There also isn’t any kind of search function built in so you’ll have to go digging to find what you’re looking for.
Dumpster is a godsend, though. Now I finally have a place to store files I’m not sure I want to delete just yet and it’s largely operational. There are a few features it’s missing, but it works.
