Review Talkray - Free Calls & Texts

Jay Feldman
7.3Good
Various features, simple interface, simple design
Limited features, functions slowly, old fashioned design
Talkray - Free Calls and Text for Android is a simple, no frills texting app that all participants must have installed in order to send and receive calls, texts and messages. The app functions well enough but offers little new or novel over all other apps just like it.
Talkray - Free Calls and Text displays in portrait to reveal a tried and true texting and messaging interface. The app works with both Android and iPhone, so you can enjoy free calls between platforms with anyone who has the companion app installed. You can send invites to anyone on your contact list and encourage them to download and use the app too.
Once you have a few friends on your list and everyone is setup and running, you can easily make calls, send texts and record voice messages too. The app can be used for international calling and even features push to talk, which allows you to communicate with a selection of contacts with a single press of a button. There's no ads, purportedly low data consumption and you can also make group calls. There's also a place to post and share pictures via a social networking component that's only shared among friends.
The app functions fairly well, though I did run into lags and the occasional sluggish performance. There's a menu at the top of your screen with icons for, calls, contacts, posts, and share. The presentation is very simple and sparse.
Talkray - Free Calls and Text is decent for what it does, but I've seen better. If you can convince your most prized friends to install and use this app, then it may just be worthwhile.
