Star Walk 2 - Night Sky Guide for Android aims to deliver the entire galaxy, and the great beyond, to your mobile gizmo. Use your device as a window to the stars, view constellations all around you and revel at the immensity of it all. This one is educational and fun.
Star Walk 2 - Night Sky Guide is truly a marvel. It presents in both portrait and landscape, and is literally a window to the stars and galaxies above. Just open the app to reveal all the wonderment around, if you'd just take a moment's pause to look, reflect and admire. Your device will literally act as a window to the universe, because wherever you point it, your screen will display a map of the stars for the exact location you are looking at. Turn your device, and your body, to get a panoramic view. You'll see many constellations that are familiar, and thousands which are not; but fret not, cuz all you gotta do is zoom in on the regions that interest you, and the app will tell you what you're looking at.
The controls make use of your accelerometer to redraw the maps as you move your device. Yes, this uses a lot of system resources and will kill your battery, pronto, however, the end result is more than worth it. You can pinch zoom to get in close, and the app will connect the dots, so to speak, and highlight points of interest with graphics and text. There's loads of add-ons and upgrades to be had, from satellite tracking, to planetary information; you name it. This is a learning tool as much as it's just good old fashioned fun.
Star Walk 2 - Night Sky Guide is a quality app, through and through, and I liked the added option of ethereal music, which rounded out the experience and added an appropriate mystical quality to the whole experience.
