Decent graphics, exciting plotline, decent game play
Very short game, challenging controls, bores you really quickly
Combo Queen for Android is an unusual retro pixel slash and dash combat game. Help a busty heroine make short work of some behemoth enemies bent on slashing her to bits. This one is highly challenging, plays well, but goes nowhere.
Combo Queen displays in landscape and starts off where every heroine begins her day, in bed. She wakes up and realizes she's got a busy day ahead of kicking butt and asking questions later, so she darts off to explore these pixel lands and find her some enemies to bash. This is a side scrolling slash and dash, and each round starts you off with an opportunity to train against a scarecrow, and you'd do good to brush up on your skills a tad because treacherous enemies lay ahead. Basically, you're just running through these enchanted lands, stopping only to slash an enemy, then continue on your frenzied run. The play is simple and engaging, but quickly turns monotonous and repetitive.
The controls are innovative and definitely takes some getting used to; you'll see a spinning diamond shape that starts off big, then quickly gets smaller and smaller, and all you gotta do is tap at the precise moment to deliver your blows. To make things trickier, you have to repeat the sequence 3 times, lest you leave an opening for your enemy to strike. The graphics and animation are crude and rudimentary by design, but look and feel like authentic retro arcade territory. The sounds are simple and decent, but quickly prey on the nerves.
Combo Queen is certainly entertaining, just not for very long, though I suspect these pixel boobies will entertain plenty of avid fans.
