Review Toy Blast
Kid friendly match 3 play
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 21 May 2017, tested on Samsung SM-G920F Galaxy S6
Neat graphics, decent game play, one-finger controls
Too easy, very common, slow animation
Toy Blast for Android is a colorful match 3 game with playful visuals and energetic action. This one features kid friendly mechanics and some lively power ups that assure the play remains energetic and inviting.
Toy Blast displays in portrait mode to deliver a tried and true match 3 gaming environment, featuring different shaped grids, populated with differently colored square blocks. Each block has a unique shape etched onto its face, including, crescent moons, circles, squares, hexagons and stars. Typical to match 3 play, you are trying to find matches of 3 or more, but rather than sliding and swiping to make matches, you're literally locating existing matches onscreen, then tapping them to make all connecting blocks burst and disappear. There’s no sliding or swiping, just tapping existing clusters of 3 or more. There's plenty of cool power ups to earn and try, and the play is modestly engaging.
The controls just use basic screen taps to deliver the goods, and all was copacetic. The graphics are inviting and vibrant, with eye catching primary colors and a cool map of all the levels. The animation has some nice bursts and visual pops, all of which rendered well, but felt a tad slow by design. The sounds feature lighthearted, upbeat music that is pleasing to the ear, but overly repetitive.
Toy Blast is a modest match 3 game that's likely best suited for kids, though diehard fans of any age will love it too.
