Review PlayerPro Music Player
A competent but uninspired music player
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 11 Jun 2017, tested on ASUS Nexus 7 (2013)
Decent functionality, simple interface
Old fashioned design, weak functionality, not enough of settings, needs to be elaborated
PlayerPro Music Player for Android is a solid, yet uninspired music and video player. It’s ok, but I’ve used better.
PlayerPro Music Player has a decent design but is a tad old and outdated in look. The music side of it has a host of nice features, but the free version limits your library just to the included sample songs alone. You really can’t use this to play your own music, but rather, just demo the app itself to see if you’d like to buy it. Or at least that’s how it appeared to me. I think it’s weird that you can’t play your own music, even on a free demo version. But I searched and searched, and couldn’t find a way to play anything but the 3 bad songs included with the app download.
The interface is decent, but the equalizer and mixer screens are screaming for a modern update. As it is, it all looks very tired and akin to Android 1.5. You can organize music in the standard ways of artist, genre, playlist and most frequently played. The app also adds the elusive folder view option, which is a personal favorite of mine; though the feature is essentially useless in this free version since access to your folders is disabled.
The video side of things works quite well and I was actually able to view all the videos I have saved to my device. However, the controls are virtually nonexistent; just the basic play, forward, reverse and pause.
PlayerPro Music Player is a competent music player with mediocre video capabilities, all for a premium price. The app seems to think quite highly of itself, but I have certainly used far better; both free and paid. This one might have been great at one time, when competition wasn't so stiff. But there are oodles of better music players and video available out there now. Frankly, I don’t think this one is a worthwhile choice, especially for a fee. It’s in need of a serious overhaul and modern update.
