Review Speed Cars: Real Racer Need 3D
Mediocre racing with slow speeds
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 24 Jun 2015, tested on Samsung SM-G920F Galaxy S6
Neat graphics, record chart, lots of levels
Device is running hot, bad controls, slow animation
Speed Cars: Real Racer Need 3D for Android is a rudimentary racing game that almost reaches greatness, but comes off a tad like a late version beta; it's almost there, but not quite. This one has decent graphics and play, and a lot of unrealized promise.
Speed Cars: Real Racer Need 3D displays in landscape, with a lot of tracks to unlock and try; so if you get bit by the bug, there's lots here to keep you busy. What I like about this one, is it wastes no time on a redundant plot, rather, it gets straight to the guts and glory of racing. This is not a drag race game, but rather, mimics professional racing on city streets that have been marked off for a day at the races. Your mission, naturally, is to go fast and reach the finish line first. There's lots of power ups to collect along the way, like nitrous, repair kits and more. If all that sounds promising, remember, it comes off like an unfinished beta that holds more promise than it delivers.
The controls use your gizmos tilt function to steer, and believe me, accuracy an nuance go flying out the window; the steering is so erratic and unrefined I was jittering all over the road and crashing into everything. The only saving grace, is accelerating happens automatically, so you can stay focused on the crashing at least. The graphics go for realism and don't quite get there; all looks pretty good, but needs a little more time in the incubator. The animation feels slow and held back, with crude illusions of speed and physics. The sounds are sparse, offering only skids and engine revs.
Speed Cars: Real Racer Need 3D is decent, but no one will come running up to you and excitedly say, "hey, I got a decent racing game you should try!" This one needs more work on refinement and details.
