Review Roads of Rome 2 (Freemium)

Decent animation, decent graphics, one-finger controls
No significant shortcomings
Roads of Rome 2 for Android is a road building game with an ancient Roman empire theme. The premise is just about as exciting as road-building sounds; but the real game is comes down to a test of your ability to schedule parallel tasks, by sending your workers out to collect materials and to build each little section.
You start of with just one worker who you send off to cut wood from trees, and collect berries. You need these resources for filling in cracks and laying down roads; and the food for your worker to finish a challenging section. Then you get more workers, who can each just do one thing at a time, so you're sending them off to collect wood, or build road, to get it finished as fast you can. You can also put up buildings along the way, to delegate certain tasks.
These include a sawmill, which produces wood in batches, so you can pick it up quickly and get on with other stuff. A farm does the same thing, but for food. You may need to build sections of extra road to reach the places for these buildings; so there's a cost-benefit, but the rewards are generally totally worth it.
The game is a bit like testing how good you would be as a computer processor. It's kind of moreish watching these guys in sandals run about, and take more or less time to complete various tasks. Mostly they hitting things with a big hammer, whether building roads or cutting down trees. When you've got minions running all over the place, and your directing them all as fast as you can, you feel like a bit of pro.
