Review Dungeon Hunter 5 – Action RPG
Slash and dash fantasy combat
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 05 Jul 2017, tested on Samsung SM-G920F Galaxy S6
Quality animation, quality graphics, responsive controls
Kills your battery, very common, monotonous game play
Dungeon Hunter 5 for Android is an intense combat adventure pitting you against an array of mythic beasts and mutant big bosses. Slash and dash your way through the kingdom searching for bad guys to battle, and try not to crap your pants in the process.
Dungeon Hunter 5 displays in landscape from an aerial vantage point, with an angled point of view on the scene below. You are looking down upon an ancient kingdom, populated with cobblestone walkways, peasant's dwellings, crates, barrels and an array of trade goods. Evil threatens to destroy these lands, and you're the bad ass charged with protecting the citizens from ruin. Luckily, you have your trusty sword handy, the type that looks like it weighs 200 pounds, and that's on top of all the armor you're wearing. Enemies appear all around you, even materializing from the ground itself. Just slice and dice anything that gnarls at you and try to stay alive. The play is fast paced and action packed, though perhaps a tad repetitive and monotonous as time goes on.
The controls use an invisible d-pad on the lower left for movement, along with an array of attack and weaponry buttons on the right. Skill is definitely part of the equation here. The graphics and animation go for CGI realism, with lots of nice details, plasma bursts and horrific looking big bosses to conquer. The sounds are foreboding and dramatic, which suits the play well.
Dungeon Hunter 5 doesn't bring much of anything new or novel to the table over parts 1 thru 4, but if you liked those games, then you'll love this one too.
