Review Hop Email - Super Fast mail
A modest email app
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 02 May 2017, tested on Samsung SM-G920F Galaxy S6
Simple interface, functions quickly
Not powerful enough, old fashioned design
Hop - Email Messenger for Android is yet another one of those email apps that promises to streamline your inbox and reclaim your sanity. The layout and function are decent, however, this one doesn't really have anything unique to offer.
Hop - Email Messenger displays in portrait but not landscape, which is a bit of an oddity for an email app that claims to be modern and efficient; but okay, let's roll with that. The app functions with an array of email clients, including Google, Yahoo, AOL and iCloud. Just input your user name and login credentials and you'll be up and running in no time. Yes, all your emails, new, sent and previously read, are all there, and yes, they all remain safe on their original server, unless you manually delete anything, in which case, it's gone from all iterations of your inbox. You can add more than one email account and easily toggle from one to the next.
The app functions well enough and I experienced no unusual lags or hangs. The layout has the same look and feel of old school Gmail, which is now essentially defunct, giving way to Google's new streamlined and intuitive Inbox app; and therein lies the problem with this app - it's mimicking dead algorithms. The functionality is decent, the presentation is decent and the tool sets are also decent, but no matter how many "decents" you string together, none of it adds up to modern or intuitive.
Hop - Email Messenger is competent but thoroughly underwhelming. Some may love it, but for the most part, it's dated, done and obsolete.
