Decent graphics, exciting plot, decent game play
Bad controls, low quality animation, pop-up ads
Commando Action War for Android is a stealthy strategy game that takes place behind enemy lines. X marks the spot, and you've gotta kill copious enemy soldiers en route to getting there. This one takes a little getting used to and feels a tad crude, however, the play is engaging and mildly addictive.
Commando Action War takes place in what appears to be World War 2, offering an aerial point of view looking down on the action below. A lone soldier finds himself behind enemy lines, and he's gotta make his way to the red X painted on the ground. There's bunkers, bridges industrial looking buildings, and naturally, patrolling soldiers to evade and destroy in this kill or be killed strategy game. Duck behind obstructions, blast the crap outta anything that moves and make it to the red X in one piece to win the round and advance to the next level. The play feels a little dry but is just captivating enough to be fun.
The controls use an invisible d-pad on the left half of the screen to pan and scan your environment, while screen taps on the right are used to target enemies and make your hero run to where you touch; it all feels a bit wonky and takes some getting used to. The graphics have some nice details, and very much imbued the game with an authentic look and feel. The animation is very crude and unappealing, with choppy renders and sluggish movements that detract from the play. The sounds feature dramatic music that's highly repetitive and grates on the nerves, with no other sound effects to be heard.
Commando Action War has a lot of unrealized potential. As it is, it's a bit of a hot mess, but the game does deliver some modest intrigue.
