Quality sound, quality 3d graphics, simple controls, quality physics
Overkill 3 for Android is a fun third person shooter game that incorporates great graphics and a unique weapon upgrade system to keep you playing forever.
In essence, this game is an on-the-rails shooter that takes you through different areas on each level. At various spots you will be able to duck into cover and peak out to shoot at enemies in the vicinity. You are given basic controls for firing, controlling aim and aiming down the sight, and you'll also occasionally get abilities that can call in airdrops or air assistance.
There is a story in this game that follows on from the previous games in the franchise. Whilst the story does little to venture from the typical action shooter "save-the-world-from-invading-enemies" plot, it's still nice to see some kind of content to add a bit more depth.
The most interesting element is definitely the weapon customization screen. From here, you can purchase new weapons and completely upgrade every last attachment on it, from the magazine to the weapon grip. This allows players to find a gun they like and stick to it for good. Besides from gameplay, everything else in this game is superb. The graphics are some of the best you'll see for 3D action shooters on mobile. The sound effects are very ambient, and the game even features great voice acting.
Overkill 3 is free to play, and there is at least a few hours of content for you to play through before gameplay becomes a little more difficult. At this point, you are almost forced into spending money on better gun upgrades. Alternatively, you can wait it out and let your guns upgrade over time, but this follows the same time consuming approach social games like Clash of Clans have implemented.
