Dark Snake for Android takes the most classic mobile game we all used to have on our Nokia 3310's and refreshes it with a smartphone friendly approach to gameplay.
In this game, you are given two basic controls on either side of the screen. Each button will make the snake turn in the direction related to the side the button is placed on. Just like the standard version of snake, you must try to pick up small pellets to increase the size of your snake. Whilst playing you will need to avoid edges of the screen, which becomes increasingly harder the larger the snake grows in size.
To start off with, you need to collect 10 pellets and at this point a portal will appear - you can enter it to start a new level. Levels start to get very dynamic, with all sorts of obstacles and traps that you need to wind your snake around. Each level needs 10 pellets before you can continue on to the next, and as you can imagine, trying to get those 10 pellets just gets harder and harder as the levels progress.
What I really like about this game is it's interesting graphics style. Everything looks hand painted, from the level design and the snake, to the interface and main menu. Thanks to the artwork used, the developers have done a great job to add a bit more life to each level. I'm really impressed with the fact that each level feels completely unique from the one before it as well. Small changes like this keep the game from becoming boring, despite the gameplay mechanics staying very similar throughout the entire experience.
Dark Snake is free to play, and there are absolutely no in-app purchases to deal with. I don't see why you shouldn't give this game a go.
