Review Do Button by IFTTT

Brandon Girod
Highly customizable, features a ton of pre-made recipes, beautifully designed, easy to use
There are only 3 recipes you can use at any given time, favors social media usage over anything else
Automation is pretty much the future. Google wants to totally nail self-driving cars by 2020, they’ve already made awesome headway with Nest, and there are a million other companies out there all competing in the home automation industry. IFTTT is one of the first website out there to try and automate the internet, and it does a pretty good job. The devs behind that site have recently released a suite of new automation apps and Do Button for Android is one of them.
Now, there is already an IFTTT app on Android, but my experience with it has been pretty hit or miss. Unlike something like Tasker, it just doesn’t work as reliably. The new Do apps were created to fix this issue by simplifying the whole process. The button app pretty much takes care of everything the camera and note app don’t. Simply put, it’s an awesome widget which will automatically do something you have it set to do.
There are some really cool recipes like sending a text or email to a loved one to let them know you’re leaving work, having it set your Nest thermostat, or even control the lights in your home. For whatever reason, this suite of apps just works unlike the parent app.
Do Button is really aimed towards someone who is incredibly social. Most of the recipes involve communicating with someone or updating your social media accounts, which is infinitely useful for someone who lives through them. Unfortunately, I don’t, so I personally feel like this is the weakest of the three apps. The other two just seem a bit more useful as far as actual productivity goes.
