A great throwback to old top-down shooters

Strong traditional gameplay mechanics, stays faithful to the game's inspirations, love the arcade cabinet presentation
The gameplay gets really difficult
World War II was a pretty scary time for everyone involved. I think that’s something we can all safely agree on. On the plus side, it paved the way for some of the greatest video games to ever come out. Strikers 1945-2 for Android is an old school top-down shooter much in the same vein as the original 1942 from way back in the day.
It’s basically a more modern adaptation of the original from 1984, which means that it’s faster, the visuals have been upgraded, and it’s more difficult as well. All pluses in my book, though I can’t say it will knock the original off its pedestal.
The game’s presentation style is immediate. As soon as you boot it up you can see all sorts of tributes to old cabinet arcade games, which I thought was an awesome touch. I also like that it took a few cues from modern games and included a few difficulties you can choose from so you aren’t immediately obliterated.
I played the game through on easy for the sake of getting through it, and I can tell you that for most players, this is where you’ll want to stay. Each level is completely unique, which is totally different from most mobile games like this, and even the bosses were stage relevant.
Strikers 1945-2 is a great top-down shooter that I’m really glad I found. It pays great homage to great top-down shooters from before, and while there are definitely some freemium elements to the games, they don’t weigh down the experience like they tend to in others.
