It works, powerful functionality, simple interface
Subscription fees, limited features, old fashioned design
Hideman VPN for Android is an IP address cloaking app that allows you to surf the net anonymously and purportedly can bypass government firewalls in censored countries. This one actually works but the subscription fees can be a tad pricey.
Hideman VPN displays in portrait and landscape to deliver a rather old school and simple interface. Truth be told, apps like this usually look pretty bad cosmetically, and most of the ones I've tried rarely work properly and just give me the creeps because I always feel like they are some sort of malware in disguise. The good news here, is this one is actually ridiculously easy to use, which inspires confidence as to its legitimacy. Upon launch, the app immediately identifies your IP address, origin country and city. Below that is a big green button that says "connect;" just tap that, then sit back and watch the magic happen. The app will automatically pick the best country, and cloak your IP address to make it look like your connection is coming from a completely different city and country, with a random IP address. Kinda cool.
So, why does one need something like this? Well, the app claims it can pierce through government firewalls aimed at censoring certain content from its citizens, so perhaps, you are seeking real news headlines instead of government sanctioned ones. Or maybe you just want to download porn and not have it come from your IP address. Whatever the case, this one literally works with one click. Subscription fees will run you from $1 - $9 for 1 hour to 100 hour subscriptions, and $2.90 to $24.90 for monthly and annual subscriptions.
Hideman VPN is simple and it works, so if you need an app like this and don't mind the prices, it might be worth checking out.
