Review Sok and Sao's Adventure

Decent animation, decent graphics, lots of levels, two-finger controls

Sok and Sao’s Adventure is an almost unplayable platform game of blast the giant mosquitoes. The graphics are really well designed and original, with high quality cartoon feel. But the controls kill this one dead. They are so bad, it’s astonishing the game could get so far in development, with so much work clearly put into the story and overall look and feel. Reading the Play store description, it seems this one was created to raise awareness of Dengue fever, which is spread by mosquitoes. Maybe that explains it: only an educational game could be this lame!
So you’ve got this onscreen joystick for moving about, right. And an “up” button for jumping, so that you need to coordinate the two for a forward jump. OK, so far, so awful. But bear with me. There’s also a fire button of course, and your joyscreen doubles as the way your character looks around to aim his weapon. Oh dear *facepalm*. The result of course is stilted wooden movements, where you are trying to get some impossible angle between straight up and straight ahead, to hit the badies that are mostly somewhere in that line of view. There are also huge spiders crawling on the ground. For these it’s really easier to use one of your grenades; trying to point just slightly down made me want to kick something in frustration.
Then there are bosses. Guess what, like many bosses, they have weak spots, which requires… you guessed it… careful aiming of your weapon! It’s not so much that the controls make this a difficult game, they just make it really annoying. This was an immmediate uninstall for me.

Sok and Sao's Adventure for Android is a fun 2D platformer game that will take you through 4 different worlds and dozens of different stages. On top of being able to run and jump around, your character is also equipped with a gun and a bunch of grenades to take out enemies with.
In this game, you will start with only the first world unlocked, and you will have just one gun type to use. As you play through each stage, you'll unlock new worlds and new weapon types to use against enemies. Whilst the weapons do play a big part in this game, let's just take a look at the rest of the game for a second.
If you are a fan of classic 2D platformer games like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog then you'll absolutely love this app. Everything about this game screams classic platformer. With great jumping mechanics, and levels that feature various creatures and bosses, you'll always be challenged and entertained.
One large difference about this game that really sets itself apart from other platformers are the gun mechanics. You can use a joystick to fire in various different directions. This directional control is critical for bringing down different creatures that may be flying or walking at different heights. This unique set of gun controls, and the great level design will easily keep you playing all the way through all four worlds. As you play, you can collect coins, and if you collect enough, you can unlock a new character to play as. You can also pick up extra missions by collecting three stars on each stage.
Sok and Sao's Adventure is one of the best adventure platformer games on the Google Play store today. The game is free, but you can spend on in-app purchases to get more coins.
