Moxtra for Android is a multifaceted tool for team communication. It could be a great tool for research groups as well as professional groups. It brings together tools for chat, teleconferencing, recording presentations, annotating documents, and making to do lists that everyone can see and work on, or have items assigned to different people. These kinds of tools have a high appeal, especially because Moxtra works across different platforms and even from within a browser.
Potentially this is a really great tool for communication, as it has nifty shortcuts like the ability to add audio comments right within the chat stream, and to set up a “meet” right away at any time. This is basically a teleconference, but with the ability to share screens, work on documents together and suchlike. You get an orange border to clearly show you you are in the meet, and it’s nice that you can have it going on in a small box you can move around while you look at or work on other stuff in the Moxtra app. You can join the conference audio using a data connection, or from one of the 6 local dial in numbers provided.
If anything, there are somewhat too many different options for annotating documents, buried into too many levels; though are some neat features here if you take the time to explore them. For example, you can record a video of yourself annotating a document, and you can add speech bubbles which you can add text to, record your voice in, or both. I like the way the app is streamlined into Chat, Pages and To-Do. You can also add things from Dropbox or Google Drive if you hook them up, and of course you can work on multiple projects (binders) at the same time. The range of features offered will take a little time for your team to learn, but Moxtra is well organised, and has loads to offer; whether you want to use it mainly for teleconferencing, or for canvassing opinions and working collaboratively.
