Review POMELO-absolute filters

Tariq Abdulla
8.3Excellent
Nice interface, stylish design, ads are not confusing
Modest functional
Pomelo for Android is a large collection of photo filters, plain and simple. It’s completely free, apart from maybe the rare in-app purchase for extra filter collections. It's also totally free from advertising, as far as I can tell. The filters are divided into collections. There’s a collection entirely based on different classic camera models. This one is sure to appeal to keen artistic and retro photographers. You can adjust the intensity of each filter, as you’d expect.
Pomelo also features more straightforward enhancements, like adjusting the temperature, defocusing around an area (they call this ‘tilt’), brightness, contrast, rotation etc. and "vignette". I couldn't figure out exactly what vignette was doing, but I liked it all the same. You can also "fade" photos to make them look sun-bleached. It gives photos kind of an instant-80’s look.
Pomelo strikes a good balance between simplicity and control that is sure to have wide appeal; especially among fans of the kind instant nostalgia that retro photo filters bring. Toning down colors really draws attention to the people in photos, and the filters give a really high quality look. There’s also a camera app which lets you take photos with a selection of the filters. But in most cases, you are better off taking photos with your own camera app, and then using Pomelo to try out different effects. There are some more free filter packs available to download. The ones bundled already are a very good selection, and let you get an excellent classic look very quickly.
