Review Poor Larry
Spend a balloon through the branches
Author: Tariq Abdulla
Date: 05 Sep 2016, tested on HTC One S
Decent animation, decent graphics, simple controls
Very short game, not interesting game play
Poor Larry for Android is a pointless game which challenges you to direct a helium-filled balloon left and ride to avoid branches. I’d say it’s frustrating, but really it’s just impossible. The balloon is too big for the gaps between the branches, and the game moves too fast for you to stand a hope of making the perfect move. You have to get it exactly right. I rarely got past the first branch, and never beyond the first 3 branches.
God help you if you get hooked on this one, cos you are going to be trying to get past those first 3 branches, doing the same thing over and over again. But I didn’t find anything to draw me in, as it was so obvious from the start that I didn’t stand any chance of success. You’re only hope might be to run a whole load of intensive apps on your phone in the hope that it slows the game down a bit. Or, maybe it’s a little easier on bigger screens? I doubt it though; you’ll still have to squeeze through the same gap.
There’s some kind of backstory about Larry’s girlfriend balloon blowing off to the tops of the trees, and he needs to go and rescue her. Whatever. I don’t really want to see how the story ends; and I know it’s impossible to get there anyway. This game doesn’t even qualify as a pointless timekiller; I was totally done with it in one sitting. This is just a vacuous mechanism for getting you to see some ads, before you give up. But if you need a real challenge: go for it. Prove me wrong.
Infuriatingly addictive time killer

Perfect soundtrack, neat graphics, unusual game play, simple controls
Too many ads
Poor Larry for Android is an Infuriatingly addictive time killer that will increase your rage levels each time you press the play button. Despite this, you'll somehow find yourself crawling back to the game. If you found Flappy Birds frustrating, you'll have no idea what you're in for with this game.
The aim of this game is to steer a balloon through the sky as you dodge trees, animals and other obstacles that get in the way. Your score will be based upon how far you can reach without hitting an obstacle, and you will be given rewards for completing certain distance milestones. The difficulty of this game is based upon the insane level layout. There are very few gaps in between the obstacles you need to dodge, which means you'll always find it difficult to squeeze by.
Because of the shape of the balloon, which is small at the bottom and wider at the top, it becomes very hard to estimate how far you must move to fit between the tiny gaps available. To give you an idea of how difficult this game is, after spending around fifteen minutes on the game, I had only reached a score of 5 meters. You always reach 3 meters before you even come across the first obstacle.
The sound effects and background music in this game are pretty decent, and the graphics, although simple, are nicely displayed. It's clear to see that the developers have put their passion into this project. As you play, you'll see plenty of funny messages and references in the game that take fun of the recent increase of mobile time killer games that have gained massive popularity.
Poor Larry is free to play, but there are a lot of adverts in the game, and this can interrupt gameplay.
