A smashing surprise

Excellent gameplay, precise controls
Has a poor tutorial, the power-ups aren't explained
I like to smash stuff, and if you like to smash stuff too then you should check out a game called NHL Hockey Target Smash for Android. It’s a game set up like you’re taking an infinite amount of penalty shots, but instead of trying to get the puck past the goalie, you’re trying to smash targets inside the goal.
So, this is a tricky game that I didn’t really like the first time I picked it up, but began to gain an appreciation for as I played through it. When you first play the game, the controls just feel bad, and that’s because the game doesn’t do a good job explaining how they work. Hitting the puck is done by swiping, and you have to be pretty accurate in order to smash the target, but once you get the hang of it, the game turns away from trying to smash the target and becomes a game about how many targets you can smash in the allotted time.
As you play through the game you get other chances to rack up points by linking together smashes, hitting smaller targets, gaining extra time, and knocking water bottles off the goal post.
The game is set up like seasons, and you play against the computer, but the computer AI wasn’t tough once I got the hang of guiding the puck.
I had a lot more fun with NHL Hockey Target Smash that I thought I was going to have. The controls are really responsive, and I feel like I have a lot of control over where the puck goes. You can customize your player, and there aren’t any free-to-play elements that weigh down the game.
