Review Jewels Saga
A straight to the point match 3 game
Author: Brandon Girod

Doesn't bog you down with a forgettable story, has tried and true mechanics
Does nothing to push the genre's boundaries, it doesn't have the prettiest graphics
It’s hard to believe that there could possibly be anymore match 3 games coming out on any mobile platform, yet here we are. Jewel Saga for Android has one strong suit that puts it in front of many Candy Crush clones, however, and that’s its no nonsense gameplay.
This game doesn’t throw some mundane story line for you to follow. It doesn’t give you a gut-wrenching sob story about your world on the brink of destruction, nor does it have you playing an entrepreneur opening up xyz restaurant. Instead, you get randomized jewels and it’s your job to complete the objectives within the fixed time frame the game gives you.
The mechanics are where the game feels like all of the other match 3 games, and that’s because it gives you the same mechanics you’ve seen thousand times before. There is nothing new or innovative here. You can match, at the minimum, three jewels together, but matching more gives you access to more powerful jewels that will boost your score. You can complete any level just by completing the objective, but you’ll need to use a bit of strategy to get 3 stars on every level.
I like that Jewel Saga just throws you right into the fray without wasting any of your time. The problem is that I’m just plain burnt out on match 3 games. I’ve played through a million of them, and this one is really no different from the rest. If you’re looking for a game that won’t waste your time, then this one isn’t bad. But if you’re looking for a refreshing game then you’ll want to look elsewhere.
