Game is repetitive to the extreme, no diversity in enemies
Bionicle for Android is a game that looks good, but ultimately doesn't impress. When I first started playing the game, I expected a menu based game without any real sense of gameplay. I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn't the case, but the game content here isn't really going to win any awards; or in this case, a good review. It often feels like theshell of a game - some parts good, while the core is severely lacking. The game has a lot of polish, good graphics, and decent gameplay. It's just that everything else doesn't contain any depth at all.
In the game, you can control a couple of different Bionicle characters. Each one of these characters represents the elements; both in their levels, colors, and overall theme. However, that being said, every single level plays very similar, if not exactly the same.
All you do in the game, is fight spider things. You have a few abilities to trigger once in a while, but moving from opponent to opponent (spider to spider) just by tapping and attacking them isn't really that fun. There is no diversity, and the spiders don’t even really fight back!
There isn't much of a control scheme to speak of, as you just happen to move to each target and attack it. In a way that's good because it controls easy, but like I mentioned before, this leaves no room for any depth or complexity in the fighting. However, the fighting animations actually look pretty decent, and there are some cool slow-motion effects; but they don't always feel quite “right”.
Bionicle is a game that succeeds on many fronts but ultimately fails. I couldn't help but feel very disappointed in the game because the graphics and presentation are spot on, but the gameplay is just too lifeless to care about. There are no story elements in the game, besides some cinematic-like cut scenes that feel very flashy (and look cool). Who are these bionicles? Why are they fighting spiders? And perhaps most importantly, why aren't there more enemies to fight?!
