Another forgettable city builder

Good looking aesthetic
Dreadfully boring gameplay, long wait timers prevent you from actually playing the game
King’s Empire for Android is a city builder through and through. It’s a game all about creating alliances so you can climb your way to the very top of the leaderboards. It largely consists of building up your city so that it can improve its defenses, boost its productivity, and maintain a large and formidable army.
I personally think strategy games like these are nothing more than interactive spreadsheets with graphical interfaces laid on top of them. Because, in reality, isn’t everything all about your numbers?
The game’s camera is a bit awkward as it's laid out in portrait mode. This severely limits how much information you can actually see in-game, and makes the UI seem a lot more cluttered than it actually is.
The wait times are exceedingly long as well. It didn’t take long at all before I found myself already setting my phone aside as I was waiting 30 minutes for my troops to march and attack a bunch of thieves and come back; before I could progress further in the “tutorial” mode.
That said, the game’s visuals are pretty good. Not as detailed as I’ve seen in other games, but it’s got a bit of style to it. The unfortunate part is that the content is just as generic as every other game in the genre. Honestly, if I were shown comparison screenshots for this and another game just like it, I’d be hard pressed to tell the difference, and that is a serious problem no matter how many players, worldwide, the game likes to boast.
My time spent with King’s Empire was largely forgettable. Part of that was because of just how generic and “me too” the game was compared to any other middle-aged city builder. It was also because most of my time with the game was spent doing other things as I waited for buildings to be built, or my armies to come back with plunder. This is a serious game mechanic flaw that only exists to lure whales in.
