Great app design, easy to use interface, good search function
Lacks some of the features from the desktop site
Deviant Art for Android is basically a native app for your phone so you don’t have to use the mobile version of the site. It comes with all of the typical features you would expect of the website, though it doesn’t offer quite as much as the full desktop version.
Starting with one of the most important aspects of apps like these is the performance. Performance was great and I didn’t notice any stutters. I was able to swipe between all of the categories listed and the pictures loaded relatively quickly. At least on par with other similar apps.
There are a bunch of categories you can swipe through like Today, What’s Hot, Undiscovered, etc… The design of the app is really good and the Today category is really nice to look at. The app follows its traditional design and is mostly black. On the top you can choose to log in or search. The search function was actually pretty robust.
Searching is as easy as typing in what you want to search for and going. It will automatically pull up a category, like gaming, and then ask you to define a bunch of other parameters and filters. If you search again you’ll notice it defaults to saving past searches as well, which is really convenient.
Overall I thought the Deviant Art app was really great. Artwork looks good and it’s actually really easy to discover things in the app. You can like, link, and search for more artwork by the same artist. But I wasn’t able to find a way to purchase anything from the mobile app, so you’ll still have to visit the site for that.
