Great interface, live vicariously through user photos
Need geo-tagged photos for album creation
Minube for Android is a multi-featured traveling app that uses your photo collection to create interesting albums. Inside the app you can also do various travel related things like find hotels, destinations, and even see photos from other users who have created travel albums.
Minube is a fun app, and one that almost lets you travel from the safety and comfort of your phone. You can view a lot of places, in particular cities, and then from there you can view fun attractions and places to look at. You can tap one of the attractions and see user submitted photos of the place or attraction. It feels a lot like Google Street View, except more personal, artistic, and fun. I checked out the Golden Gate bridge by looking at other user’s artistic renditions (some were stylized in black and white, others very bright and glowy, some just normal) of the bridge.
Overall, the ability to find places through the app is presented in a very attractive interface. Each attraction within the city is a colorful tile with a thumbnail view of the place and the name of the place on it. You simply tap on the tile and then you can see more information, save the place, or look at user photos.
Since I didn’t have any geo-tagged photos, I couldn’t get Minube to make an album for me. A lot of these apps encourage you to share photos with friends or users about your travels, which is a cool idea; especially for those like me who haven’t traveled as much. While it is a bit unfortunate I couldn’t custom make some albums to share, I did like that the app does have content for viewers who can’t access their own photo part of the app.
Minube is a great looking app with a lot of featured content for travelers, or for those looking to find fun things to do in a city. It’s based on a photo foundation, so you might need to have some geo-tagged photos in order to get the most out of the app.
