Lots of levels, addictive game play, simple controls, quality physics
Difficult to play without in-app purchases
We've all seen tower defense games before, but Monster Mania TD: First Strike for Android takes the genre into unexplored territory. In this game, you play as a moving tower that is slowly rolling towards the finish line in each level. You're equipped with all sorts of big weapons that can be used to bring down the goblin onslaught.
Whilst most tower defense games involve setting up a base and sitting back to watch the action unfold, this game orients itself around a whole lot of action, and you will need to manually control all of the weapons on your moving tower; instead of letting the game do it for you. Your basic form of attack will be a machine gun with endless ammo that can be fired by moving your finger on the screen. However, you will also be equipped with all sorts of other weapons from rocket barrages to giant bombs.
As you continue to play through the fifty levels in the game, you will unlock more upgrades for your tower, and it will start to grow in size. Each new floor added to your tower will add new equipment to use that will help you to take on the ever growing goblin forces.
The graphics in this game are definitely above par for a 2D mobile game. The interface is nice and colorful, making it easy to navigate without problem. The sound effects fit in well with the action-packed gameplay, and there is even a little backstory to keep you motivated to continue plowing through your enemies.
Monster Mania TD: First Strike is free, but there are in-app purchases, and earning enough income to buy equipment can be a bit of a grind without spending real world money on the game.
