Direct access to hundreds of Marvel comics, portrait and landscape mode reading
Graphically intensive interface, almost no free content
Marvel Unlimited for Android is an app for the comic enthusiasts out there. It offers direct and easy access to literally hundreds of Marvel comics, all neatly packed into one simple app.
The app offers users the ability to purchase and read their own virtual copies of Marvel’s famous comics. Every comic the user can think of is here, waiting to be purchased and read. While the app itself is free to download and use, the actual comics require individual or subscription based purchases to be readable. The only thing the app offers for free is the possibility to browse the virtual library and read short, four page incentive versions of certain comics, and a few introductions to each character.
The interface is somewhat complex, with a few more tabs than was actually necessary for a comic reader app. Landscape support is missing in most parts of the interface, with the exception of the actual reading phase, where the user can make use of it. There are no customization options available to toy with. The entire interface is a take it or leave it deal, as the theme, color scheme, and layout are entirely set.
Overall, if you have a passion for comics, then Marvel Unlimited is definitely something you need; despite the fact that nothing will ever beat the feeling and satisfaction that a true paperback gives you. On the other hand if you are not prepared to pay the fee to purchase each individual comic, or a subscription, then the app provides little to no free content.
