Neat graphics, distinctive levels, unusual game play, one-finger controls
Match 3 Quest: Valiant Ally takes the match 3 genre and completely mixes it up by throwing a bunch of interesting RPG and turn based fighting elements into the game. If you enjoy match 3 games, but are looking for something a bit more unique, this might just be what you're looking for.
In this game, you will progress through a level screen, and on each level, different monsters will appear that your character will need to fight. To do damage to the monster on-screen, you will need to match up three runes that correspond to the elemental damage you can do. For example, if you do fire damage, you will need to match up three 3 runes to inflict damage on the monster. As you complete levels, you will earn coins and pick up cards, which can be used to unlock monsters that can fight alongside you. Each monster also has their own elemental attack.
Whilst playing, you and your monsters will continue to earn experience and level up; and doing so will give the player an opportunity to pick a new skill for the monster or their character. This keeps things interesting in the long term, because there are always things to unlock. So even when the match 3 gameplay gets a little dull, there are items or monsters in the game that you will want so much that the game can still be exciting.
When it comes to graphics, everything looks very impressive. The developers have used 2D art for all of the in-game scenes, backgrounds and characters. A lot of work must have gone into this artwork, because it all looks incredible. As for the sounds, there are a range of funny sound effects in some places, but not really any background music.
Match 3 Quest: Valiant Ally is free to download and install, although in-app purchases can help players to acquire better monsters and gear.
