Review Route Z

Frantic zombie slaughtering
Repetitive game design
Route Z for Android is another racing game that utilizes a simple control scheme that has you swerving around debris to hit zombies and rack up points.
In Route Z, the game design will become clear very early on. In the game, you drive your car and eventually you’ll run out of fuel if you don’t manage to hit any debris or wall dividers along the way. (When you do hit one of these objects head on, the animations of the car exploding and barrel rolling can be quite awesome). So when you run out of fuel, you have the option to refuel your car and keep going. This refueling costs game currency, and the only way to earn the currency, is to keep replaying the same level from start to finish over and over (or, you guessed it, pay real money for convenience). So you will play a level 5 times or more each time dying (or running out of fuel) and there's nothing you can do about it, except collect the money you have earned from doing the level each time. If that isn't grinding, I don’t know what is. It’s a horrible and greedy mechanic that makes me feel ashamed.
Besides the main game design, the mechanics in the game work average. Controlling your car is easy, but avoiding debris often feels gimmicky and tricky. If you hit something by the edge even a little bit, it nearly totals your car and puts it on fire. Hitting zombies is fun, but it doesn't really add to your fuel or provide any fun benefits except in the long term currency count.
The graphics in the game aren't anything amazing, as the scenery on the sides is mostly dusty and orange. The zombies look okay, and sometimes I felt they looked a little too similar to real people. The best part of the graphics is when you crash your car and see it spiral throughout the air. It’s also an interesting view when your car starts the level, but its a view you’ll quickly get tired of after so many repetitive attempts.
Route Z should be called Route Loop. Because you’ll be taking the same route a lot of times over and over.
